Wine Nutrition: Is it Good or Bad for You?




Nearly twenty years ago, people started talking about the phenomenon known as the “French Paradox.” What the heck is that? ||The French Paradox is the phenomenon of the French, a people world famous for their adoration of fatty cheeses and other similar sauce-smothered foods, and the fact that they have a very low rate of heart issues and problems. This is achieved by their daily consumption of red wine. Indeed, wine nutrition is the answer!

Here in the US, people tend to take everything to excess, and alcohol is no exception. We like to drink – a lot. As a result, liver disease and alcoholism are running rampant amongst most Americans that drink alcohol every day. But wine is different. Wine has properties that take it beyond mundane liquor and beer.

Countless studies have shown that drinking a little wine every day is beneficial for your health and longevity. Red wine contains resveratrol, an antioxidant that destroys cancer-laden cells, helps reduce the impact of time/aging on the body, and helps keep arteries clean and prevents strokes. Resveratrol and the other antioxidants (usually found in fruits and vegetables) are the building blocks of your cells, especially the cells in your immune system. It’s these cells that keep you healthy, so you have to treat them right!

For the elderly, drinking a bit of red wine on a daily basis promotes healthier blood vessels, as well as reducing the risk of coronary heart disease and also ulcers. This also helps build stronger bones and helps decrease ovarian cancer and stroke risk among women. For men, heart attack chances are lowered significantly if they are at risk because they suffer from the effects of high blood pressure. Red wine nutrition is hard to ignore when you look at these facts.

Turn on the TV or radio and you’ll eventually hear all about it: there are now companies selling resveratrol as a supplement, further educating people about wine nutrition. These supplements are great if you can’t drink wine but want to get the same health benefits. If you get a red wine supplement, make sure it has at least 100 mg resveratrol in each pill. That’s how much you need to get the optimal effect.
